SDS 2020 31 Elementary Probability and Statistics

This course offers an elementary introduction to essential statistical concepts, reasoning, and data analysis. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including statistical summaries and graphical presentations of data, discrete and continuous random variables, the principles of statistical inference, design and analysis of research studies, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, and linear regression. Through this course, students will develop a critical perspective on statistical analyses presented in the media and learn to accurately interpret outputs from common statistical procedures applied in data modeling and hypothesis testing. A key objective is to equip students with the practical skills necessary to implement standard data analysis techniques using basic R commands. By the end of this course, students will possess a solid foundation in statistical methods and their applications, enhancing their ability to conduct and evaluate data-driven research.
